Seaver Gymnasium

This building was originally built for the School of Physical Education in 1890 at a cost of $2,700. Eventually it began to be used by the Boys and Girls Club. At various times throughout it's history, the building has also been used by the High School Club(1930s-1950s) and by the Chautauqua School of Dance(early 1980s). The top floor is a gymnasium. It was one of the first places in the country to have basketball hoops installed. The bottom floor, known as "The Bath House", has separate changing rooms for boys and girls for swimming. The bath houses were remodeled in 1938, and then the entire building received a major renovation in 2000. The building originally had a ramp leading up to the second floor but was removed in place of stairs years later. In 2000, these old stairs were removed and a new ramp was added, bringing the past to life once again.
