Boys and Girls Club Song

Onward Boys Club, Onward Girls Club
Full of life, and pep, and vigor
Cheers forever, Solemn never
That's our Boys Club(Girls Club) rap
Rah !  Rah !  Rah !

Onward Boys Club, Onward Girls Club
If you're red or blue,
We'll win our CBC's(CGC's)
As we hail to you......Hey !

Originally, the song, to the tune of "On Wisconsin", was created by a group of girls in the 1920's or 30's. The girls were on teams and each team came up with words to go with a tune. Then they would sing their songs and see who was judged to be the best. From these spirited musical games came the tune "Onward Girls Club, Onward Girls Club".

After the Boys Club and the Girls Club merged into one program years later, the words to the song were changed to "Onward Boys Club, Onward Girls Club". Also, in the second stanza, boys sing about winning their CBC's and girls sing about their CGC's. Starting in 1895, and continuing to this day in one form or another, children attending Club could win a CBC or CGC. In Club's earlier days, it had to be won. A Clubber had to demonstrate athletic or meritous achievement to win the award.

Over the years the requirements needed to win were changed many times. Then, starting in 1965, the only requirement needed to win a CBC/CGC was attendance at Club for at least 3 weeks. In 1988 the attendance requirement was dropped to 2 weeks, and since 1993, any child attending Club for at least one full week receives a CBGC patch.
